People will tell a stress app things they would not tell anyone. That data should never sit on someone else's server, including mine. Apple's on-device model finally made it possible to build something actually smart without asking anyone to give that up.
The app I wanted to build in 2019 was not possible at the time. I wanted something that could recognize your patterns and learn what helps you specifically, and that took on-device AI to do responsibly.
Most stress apps are built for people who have twenty free minutes and a quiet room. I built this for the people sitting in a meeting with your jaw clenched.

A seven-year revival
Stress Less first launched in February 2019 and relaunched August 18, 2026. Seven years later, Apple’s on-device AI made it possible to build the personalized, adaptive app Dave originally envisioned, without sending a user’s stress data off their phone.
Built by one person

Dave Faliskie is an independent mobile app developer and the founder of 1ManStartup, where he builds privacy-first apps as a solo operation. He shipped his first app, Stress Less, in 2019 after a layoff. Seven years later he rebuilt it from scratch around Apple's on-device AI.

Dave Faliskie is an independent mobile app developer and the founder of 1ManStartup, where he builds privacy-first apps as a solo operation.
He shipped his first app, Stress Less, in 2019 after being laid off, while dealing with the stress of the situation himself. It became the start of the independent career he has worked in since, building and releasing apps on his own and creating content that teaches other developers how to do the same.
Seven years later, people were still opening Stress Less and new users were still downloading a version built in 2019. That was the signal that brought him back to it. He rebuilt the app from scratch around Apple's Foundation Models framework, so that the personalization runs entirely on the user's phone and no stress data ever leaves the device.
His other apps include Roads Audio, an async voice messaging app, and Birthday Vault, a once a year journaling app. He works from Virginia.
